Morph TargetsMorph Targets

  • For this Tutorial you'll need: Poser4, Truespace 4 (should work with TS3) and John Wind's "compose utility" which can be found at the poserforum.
  • This is a step by step tutorial for creating a"unicorn" growing out of the mans head.
  • - First start Poser and apply a figure (I used the Poser4 nude man) to the main window.
  • - Export the head (and only the head) as an obj. file
  • - Fire up truespace and load the obj. file. In the import options window select meters and leave all other potions unchecked-
  • - now with the face selection tool select some faces of the head object and pull the selected faces away from the head object. It'll will work best if you pull them a long way (the unicorn should be two or more times longer than the head, see the explanation at the end of the tutorial)
  • - If you're finished save the object in the .cob ascii format. Unfortunally TS can't save obj files.
  • - Now it's time to use the compose utility, so close TS open "compose"
  • - Load the cob file into compose and go to the "xform" tab. Now in the rotation section use the following values:
  • X=90, Y=0 and Z=180 . This makes sure that the morph target will be in the right place. I don't know why this is so, it's just the result of my experimentation.
  • - Now save the transformed object in obj file format and close compose.
  • - Change to Poser, select the head and apply the created morph target. Use the morphing dial carefully!
  • Explanations:
  • If you pull the selected faces only a short distance away from the head you'll find that using the morph dial will
  • make your unicorn growing out of the head but it'll will also shring the rest of the head. So using a large distance will give you the wanted effect before the head will shrink.
  • When you load the object in TS you have to zoom in !!!!
